Additional Information: | Historic plats and insurance documents suggest this building was constructed c. 1900 as the Bank of Cambridge. George Dow, a locally prominent citizen, began the village's second bank in 1898 and seved as its first president. The so-called Bank of Cambridge was a rather small institution, having only $10,000 in capital through the early 1920s; however this figure jumped to $40,000 by 1927. M.G. Rowland became the president after Dow died in 1904. A.C. Amundson was a subsequent proprietor, who was replaced in 1919 by his son, A.R. Amundson. During the 1950s, A.R. moved the bank to another building, where he continued to serve as president until retiring in 1974. Since the early 1950s, various commercial enterprises have operated within the current structure, including the Cambridge Jewelry Store. |
