Additional Information: | Very good example of typical early brick double flat. A garage exists on the property. 2001- "This two-story, front gable, brick duplex has recessed first- and second-story entrances on each side of a central bay. Center windows of the bay retain their leaded-glass transoms; otherwise, this vernacular Queen Anne building lacks significant elements of the style. Windows include one-over-one, double-hung, wooden sashes and all exterior doors are modern. Porches and balconies have modern metal or wooden railings. The enclosed front gable is sheathed with asphalt shingles and contains a pair of one-over-one, double-hung windows. The south facade features a cross-gable dormer with cornice returns. An 1896 building permit indicates that Theodore Hausmann designed and constructed this residence at a cost of $3,500 for John Kastenholz, who was employed as a bookkeeper for the Miller Brewery. City of Milwaukee building permit records do not show any other owner until Walter Pitchford in 1950." - "Marquette Interchange, Milwaukee", WisDOT ID #1060-05-02, Prepared by Heritage Research (McQuillen) (2001). |
