Additional Information: | The 1887 insurance map shows a house on the southwest corner of 7th and Lake, while there is an empty lot at 1204 Highland. The 1894 insurance map shows the Lakeview Flats on the southwest corner of 7th and Lake while at 1204 Highland a home has appeared which has the same configuration as the home that had been at 7th and Lake. This was not the Lorenzo Janes House as stated in Mrs. D.H. Flett's account of early Racine published in 1905. The Janes' House was actually on the southeast corner of 7th and Main. In recent years the house has been called "Kenyatta Manor" in honor of Jomo Kenyatta, founder and president of the African state of Kenya. |
