Additional Information:Locally designated 11-17-86. Another map code is 4/30 LUQS #397. 1893 - New store front. 1908 - New store front. 1918 - New store front. 1984 - Store front partial restoration. Douglas was the architect in 1893. Lesser was the architect in 1908. Renner Design was the architect in 1984. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Original top floor and cornice exhibits unusual brickwork. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The company that presently occupies this building, H.H. West's Stationery, has been in business in Milwaukee since its foundation in 1856. An excellent example of a commercial building of this date with its upper floors in nearly original condition. Engravings Sources 2 and 3. This store was built by Zimmermann Brothers in 1886 for their "readymade" clothing store. They were established in 1866 and continued in business on water street for over 40 years.
