Additional Information: | A site file exists for this property under the name "Trinity Presbyterian Church 2176 N 39th". It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. The complete photo codes are 10-9/22, 23. This structure is representative of the small early 20th century chapel-like churches. A clear departure from the previous cream brick spired edifices, its stucco wall finish and curvilinear Jacobean gables are of note. Peter Sauer and Fred Graf were the buiders. Historical Statement: Little is known of the Presbyterian congregation which first occupied this church. The German Zion Baptist Church was founded in 1953; the congregation purchased this building in 1959. Since then they have been renamed Christian Union Baptist Church. (Another historical name is Washington Park Presbyterian Chapel). |
