NOTES
Additional Information:2020: The Martin R. Heggestead Building is a one-story commercial building built in 1920. It is constructed of concrete block with a brick veneer facade. The flat roof features a stepped parapet with vinyl-clad coping along the front (northwest) facade. Additional decorative details include brick pilasters, brick header designs, and concrete detailing on the front facade. Alterations include replacement storefront windows, transoms, and recessed entrance; removal of a full-width awning; and demolition of an original attached garage along the side (southwest) elevation.

The building was designed by Carl. C. Menes, a native Norwegian who moved to Columbia County in 1894 and became a prominent local builder and self-taught architect. Menes was known for designing elaborate Victorian houses, particularly in the Queen Anne style, in addition to commercial and governmental buildings, churches, and schools. He designed approximately 30 known properties in Lodi and the surrounding area in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
