It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. In 1887, the first church for the congregation was located in a former school and Episcopal mission near W. Wisconsin and N. 30th St. J. Schrurck was the builder of the present building. In 1905, the present building was lengthened 30'. The school was built in 1924 and was designed by Av. Wiskocil. In 1954, the church was sandblasted. In 1960, the spires were removed. 1964 - portico added. Jos. Schrurck was the builder. St. Rose of Lima is typical of Gothic Revival churches as constructed in Milwaukee. It has undergone considerable alterations. St. Rose was established as a parish for West Side Milwaukee residents in 1887. It served the large Irish community and originally occupied buildings owned by an Episcopal mission. |
