Wustum Museum of Fine Arts) was originally constructed in 1856, with side porches added in 1901, and museum wings added in 1941 and 1966. The building is irregular in plan. The original house has a brick foundation, brick walls, and an asphalt-shingled hipped roof; the museum addition has a concrete foundation, concrete walls, and a flat roof. The front elevation faces northeast; the fagade of the house is symmetrical in plan with the exception of the large museum addition to the northwest elevation. A flat -roofed 1-story porch spans the width of the front elevation of the house. The porch roof is supported by Tuscan columns and is accessed via a central flight of steps. Pairs of tall, narrow 1-over-1 double-hung windows are located at the first and second stories. A pair of French doors opens onto the porch roof at the center of the second story. Paired brackets are located just below the roofline. A square hipped-roof cupola with paired brackets is located in the center of the roof. Thirteen acres of parkland surround the museum; this space was designed by notable Wisconsin landscape architect Alfred Boerner." -"STH 38/Northwestern Ave/State St", WisDOT #2290-17-00, Prepared by GLARC (Gail Klein), (2011). |
