Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Early 20th century residential design with Prairie Style elements. It was restuccoed three times. No original building permit is on file. Dr. Oscar and Francis Bellew were the owners from 1918 to 1944, and Professor David and Patricia Host were the owners in 1944. (B). 2021: This two story Prairie Style house was built in 1919 for Dr. Oscar Bellew, a dentist, and his wife Frances. The house was designed by prominent architect Russell Barr Williamson. The house is clad in roughcast stucco and has a low hipped roof with broad eaves. A cantilevered, hipped porch roof is centered on the front elevation, and a hip-roofed sunroom projects from the south elevation. The house has wood stringcourses, window heads, and vertical trim. The house retains its original windows, consisting of casements in groups of three or four, with a distinctive pattern of square lights forming a frame around the outside of each window ensemble. The property also contains a small garage (AHI #243516) that is connected to the house by a low wall. |
