NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Donated by Halle Steensland, Norwegian consul who lived in Madison from 1855-1905. Bridge was expanded from 2 to 6 lanes in 1950. Bridge was demolished and replaced in 2006.

1999 - Reinforced concrete bridge carries six lanes of traffic over Yahara River. Originally designed by George B. Ferry of Milwaukee in 1905. Construction of original bridge was financed by Norwegian Consul and Madison resident Halle Steensland.

In 1950 the bridge was widened from 60 feet to 127 feet. At the time the original design was reproduced using the original stones.

This bridge was not considered a contributing structure in the Tenney Park / Yahara River Parkway Historic District "because the bridge was reconstructed in 1950, [and] it is not yet 50 years old, so it cannot be counted as contributing to the historic character of the parkway."
