NOTES
Additional Information:1999- "This building is a gabled five-story frame grain elevator building with corrugated steel siding and asphalt shingle roofing. The original portion of this building may have been built as early as 1886.5 Built by the Manitowoc Malt and Grain Company, the building was used as both an elevator and a creamery in 1892.6 The building served as a malt house and storage facility for barley, a major crop grown in the area until the 1940s.

The building is constructed of 12" x 12" hardwood beams on top of 2" x 4" boards that are laid flat and stacked 25 feet deep. Each bin has a capacity of about 2,000 bushels of grain. Many of the bins are currently used for bulk feed storage and for storage of corn and oats. Most original window openings remain, although a few have been obscured with steel siding. In 1964 the building was remodeled and a steel-sided office and a larger milling area were added. In 1969, a corn drying system was added, along with additional storage area for 40,000 bushels of grain. In 1974, a steel-sided warehouse was added to the rear of the building."
