NOTES
Additional Information:This two-story Italianate depot features a rectangular shaped plan configuration (with additions), a brick exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled gable roof. The building, which has been extensively altered since its construction, is in poor condition. However, it is architecturally significant in that it represents a type, period or method of construction.

Historical Statement: A Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad depot appears at this location on maps printed in 1858, 1873, and 1891. (See Bib. Ref. D, G, H). The Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad owned this building as late as 1982. According to the Inventory card describing this structure, the Wisconsin Wagon Company owned the former depot in 1985 and used it for manufacturing. The Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Depot, built in c. 1856 (see Bib. Ref. D, E, F), is historically significant in that it is associated with the development of a locality.

"The intersection of Laurel and Academy was once a busy node of passenger and freight railroad activity. Now one of the last remaining railroad structures in Janesville, this brick-veneered depot was originally constructed as one story and was later raised to two. Between 1901 and 1926 it was used as the Fisher and Fisher tobacco warehouse, and the brick addition fronting Laurel Street was made ca. 1910."
