Additional Information: | 1997- "Rectangular in plan, this brick building (constructed c. 1910) has a standing seam metal gambrel roof with bell eaves and a large shed roof dormer. The building is two stories and the main entrance is on the gable end. The front facade has two pairs of double-hung sash windows on the second story, and an enclosed entry with modern casement windows. The side has four bays containing three paired double-hung sash windows with stone lintels and sills and a single window. The building has a stone foundation and a stringcourse is found above the foundation line. A small concrete block addition with a shed roof has been added to the rear of the building. The building retains fair integrity. Constructed in the early 1900s, this building was a cheese factory operated by Lawrence Feifarek. In the 1930s, the J.L. Reif family purchased the building and land from Lawrence Feifarek and retained its use as a cheese factory. The processing plant of the factory was located in one half of the basement, while the other half contained a large refrigeration unit. The main floor was also divided, with the front half being a grocery store and the rear half a residence. An additional residence was located on the entire second floor. The grocery store and factory were operated by the Reif Family until 2 to 3 years ago, when both the factory and store closed. The residences were used until the fall of 1996. The building is currently vacant." -"Harmony, Marinette West, Oconto East and West, and Pensaukee, 7.5", WisDOT#1154-01-00, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc, (1997). |
