Additional Information: | 1999: The Blackwell Civilian Conservation Corps Camp was established in 1933. This complex of about a dozen buildings has served as the Blackwell Job Corps Center since 1965. Four buildings are adjacent to the road; the ca. 1990 brick headquarters building and three, nearly identical, ca. 1935 side gable buildings that may have been dorms. Each of the ca. 1935 structures have been altered with vertical board siding and panels with one-over-one, aluminum windows. These alterations appear to date from ca. 1975 and severely compromise the integrity of the buildings. The Blackwell camp does not convey its association with the CCC very well due to the poor integrity of the 1930s buildings in the camp, and the new buildings that have been constructed for the Job Corps are interspersed among the earlier structures. |
