Additional Information: | This stone arch bridge was built on the land of the Krotzman farm to provide the farmer access to his fields after the raised roadbed was constructed. It sits at the back of the agricultural buildings of the old Krotzman farmstead, which also has a round barn. It is near another stone arch bridge on Keel Road. It is one of two such bridges identified in the survey area of Jefferson, Leon, and Wells (1999-2000). These bridges are near an area of Monroe County known as Tunnel City, where large stone tunnels were built for the railroad in 1872 in the same manner as these bridges. Inspection records at the Chicago & North Western Railway Historical Society archives indicate it was built 1879. It is a 15' span. |
