Additional Information: | The Hussa Brewing Company Salon is a late Italianate-Classical Revival building constructed in 1909. It is constructed of dark red brick and decorated with a metal classical cornice featuring modillions. Under the cornice are rows of brick corbeling and round brick arches with keystons decorate the second story windows, giving them the suggestion of being round-arched themselves. The openings are filled with simple single-light sashes. The storefront consists of three round arched openings decorated with round brick arches and large keystones. The arches are connected with shallow or flat pilasters. Round arched transoms filled with small panes of glass are probably original to the building, as are the large show windows. The store's apron has been covered with modern stone veneer, the only major change to the building. It has a high degree of integrity, and in particular, its round-arched storefront is extant and in excellent condition. The building is an attractive little building that stands out in Cashton's downtown. It was built for a brewing company as a saloon and was operated as such until prohibition. |
