NOTES
Additional Information:Modern garage on property. 2000: "Comprised of a two-story, side-gable block and a one-story wing to the north, this former cheese factory has been remodeled for residential use and is completely sheathed with wide, aluminum siding. A modern, shed-roof porch extends across much of the building's east facade. While some of the openings appear to retain their original arrangement, windows have been replaced with metal combination storms, the majority of which are flanked by modern shutters. Although no accurate date of construction could be ascertained, plat maps suggest a post-1892 date. Martin Janz(er) was the owner of the entire southeast corner parcel in 1892, although "cheese factory" appears as a notation on a smaller parcel on the 1915 map. A local resident indicated that a man named Rueffner ran the factory from approximately 1905 to 1909 and was later succeeded by a Mackenzie or Jacob Joss (1919-1920). Thereafter, the operation was run by the National Milk Company from 1921 to 1925 and the milk was hauled to Slinger. No information was found regarding production levels or how long the factory functioned after 1925." cheese factory
