Additional Information: | 2001- "This square, four-story, brick, Mediterranean Revival style apartment building has square towers anchoring its corners. The towers feature concrete trim, diamond-shaped masonry insets between each story, and half-circle mosaic panels composed of variegated tile atop the fourth-story windows. Between the towers, arcaded corbeling is found beneath a tile roof. The front facade consists of a centered gable with a mosaic panel and a primary entrance including a round arch doorway with round-arch sidelights accented with four, inset, classical pilasters. The wooden door has had original glass replaced with plexiglass and an intercom system has been installed in the left sidelight. Fenestration consists of paired and triple six-over-one, double-hung windows, which appear to have wooden sashes but metal muntins. A significant portion of the building's concrete trim has cracked or spalled, and repair efforts have patched or chalked these areas in a rather poor manner. Repeated attempts to gain access to the building's lobby were unsuccessful; however, observation from the outside revealed a tile floor and a round-arch doorway leading from the foyer to the lobby, which formerly contained, but currently lacks, a door. The original building permit dates to 1928 and states that the apartment building would house 31 units, measure 71' by 75', and cost $60,000. Later permits simply record upgrades to HVAC systems and maintenance. The architect is not stipulated in the records." - "Marquette Interchange, Milwaukee", WisDOT ID #1060-05-02, Prepared by Heritage Research (McQuillen) (2001). 2020 - I-94 Supplemental Survey - WisDOT ID #1060-27-01: Resurveyed. Little or no change. Update photo. |
