| Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "West Racine Commercial Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Resurveyed 2015. 2015- "This two-story commercial building was constructed in 1919. It has a flat roof with a parapet. The parapet has a wide pointed merion at its center, with smaller squared merlons at either side. The exterior walls of the building are clad in a blonde brick. Ornamentation includes a limestone cap on the parapet, a pointed panel in the center merion that reads "Hays 1920 Bldg.," and an arrow motif on the outer merlons. The second story windows are capped by a soldier course of brick with a square limestone piece at the end. The windows rest on a limestone sill that stretches the full length of the facade, which is divided into five fenestration bays. The second story windows are all one-over-one sashes. All are vinyl replacements except the middle bay which has a wood window. The first stmy features two storefronts on the outer four bays, and a recessed entty to the second stmy on the middle bay. The storefronts each have metal framed display windows with angled walls that recess to the glazed door shop entrances. The storefront windows on the east storefront are taller than that on the west. Each storefront is sheltered by a modern fabric awning that displays the name of the corresponding businesses." - "Washington Ave (STH 20), Roosevelt Ave to West Blvd", WISDot #2440-09-00, Prepared by Shelley Greene (2015). |
