Additional Information: | John was a Nash Auto dealer and a Firestone, Goodyear, and Kelly-Springfield tire dealer. 2001: Both the residence and associated garage were constructed by Alfred John. John was born in 1889 in the Town of Sheboygan Falls and, in 1895, he moved to the town of Lima. In 1918, he established a car salesroom and repair garage. Tax records and secondary sources suggest that the house and garage were built that year. An unidentified advertisement indicates that he was a dealer for the Nash automobile as well as a dealer in Firestone, Goodyear and Kelly-Springfield tires. On June 4, 1924, John married Olive Tracy, whose parents operated the Tracy General Store in Waldo. Olive graduated from Waldo High School in 1918 and then attended business school in Plymouth. Thereafter, she worked at her parent's store until 1926. The Johns ran the garage until 1940 or 1944; thereafter, Alfred worked at the Waldo Canning Co., until his retirement in 1954; he was also employed at Waldo Orchards. |
