NOTES
Additional Information:2000-2001:

Elements on the property include the following; a ca. 1930s, clipped gable, clapboard-sheathed garage resting on a concrete foundation; a gazebo topped with a miniature cupola and featuring a partially enclosed balustrade; and a ca. 1940s, front-gable, clapboard-sheathed garden shed. Fronting the home are two (likely modern), cut-limestone gateposts that are united by a wrought-iron gate with the letter "B" centered on a iron crest. One post has an University of Wisconsin Badger mascot engraving next to the word, "Bemis", while the other has "Est. 1930" engraved on it. These posts stand on either side of a decorative-tiled walkway that leads up to the front porch. Two other limestone posts with concrete pommels stand at the property's northeast and southeast corners.

Dr. Ira M Bemis, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Edward Bemis, was born on May 24 1901 in Batavia. In 1927, Bemis married Lona Draheim and took over his fathers Batavia medical practice. Three years later, in 1930, he constructed the subject residence, which contained his doctors office. Like his father before him, Bemis was known throughout the area for his medical care for the community until his death on June 21, 1968.

Dr. Bemis was a second-generation physician in Batavia who operated his office out of his home and reportedly kept his door open at night for the convenience of late-night patients.
