Additional Information: | July 2001-This two story, frame Greek Revival farmhouse was built circa 1873, probably for G. Phillips. It is gable ell in form, finished with narrow clapboards and features corner and cornice boards. The roofs are surfaced with asphalt shingles. Stucco or concrete has been applied to the foundation. A partially-enclosed, hip roofed porch is tucked into the ell. Two doors are found on the front facing façade. A door with a shouldered, classical surround is offset in the front facing gable (probably original to the structure). Concrete steps lead up to this door and metal posts supporting a metal canopy create a portico sheltering it. A second door in a plain surround appears inside the porch. Paired, 1/1 windows (an alteration) flank the door. The house also exhibits double hung sash windows in a 2/2 configuration (perhaps original), as well as single pane frieze windows and modern, horizontally-oriented windows. Statement of Significance: This farmhouse belonged to G. Phillips in 1874. The property was owned by Nicholas Zehren from at least 1889 until at least 1901. John Zehren owned it from at least 1912 until at least 1923. It belonged to Louis Korb in 1953 and Lowell Korb in 1968. The farmhouse was evaluated under Criterion C. It is a very modest example of a Greek Revival house and alterations have compromised its integrity. These included enlarged window openings, replacement windows and the portico over the front door. Further, no historical significance was found. A DOE is not recommended. |
