NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. 2023: Triangle Park, now known as Veterans Park, is a small, triangular-shaped, public park located in the village of Saukville. The park is bounded by South Mill Street to the east, East Green Bay Avenue (CTH O) to the south, and STH 33 to the north. The park features poured concrete and brick paver walkways, metal picnic tables and benches, decorative light posts, wooden signage, decorative planting, several mature trees, the Triangle Bandstand (AHI No. 138838), a veteran’s memorial with stone marker and three flagpoles, and a small boulder with plaque. Several local historic markers are located within the park, covering the history of the bandstand, the park itself, the area’s veterans, and the Saukville Menominee Indian Trails. Many elements of the setting have been altered, including the plantings, walkways, and the addition of the modern picnic tables, benches, and veterans memorial. Prior to the European settlement of Saukville, the land upon which Triangle Park currently occupies served as a crossroads of two important trails of the Menomonee Tribe. These trails were later converted to military roads and led to the eventual development and settlement of Saukville. This history is documented by a historic marker within the park. In the early twentieth century the parcel served as a market. In the 1920s local organizers, under the guidance and design of landscape architect Alfred Boerner, turned the area into a public park. In 1924 Concrete Products Company of Saukville constructed the Triangle Bandstand within the park, and in 1954 a veterans memorial was added. By the 1970s the park was unused and neglected. The Village of Saukville completed a $20,000 renovation project in the 1980s. The park was renamed Veterans Park sometime after 1989.
