NOTES
Additional Information:2002-
-In addition to the house (AHI 126095), this parcel includes the following: a c1880s vertical board barn (AHI 126258); a c 1950s silo; a c1950s milkhouse (AHI 126259); a fieldstone smokehouse (AHI 126260); two fieldstone barn foundations; a gabled pumphouse with shiplap siding (AHI 126098); and a c1950s three car garage.
-The owner of the property at the time of the home's construction was Gustave Scheffel. Many of the outbuildings, however, date to the 1880s and and early 1900s, when the farm was occupied by Gustav's father. The farm remained in the Sheffel family until 1973, when it was purchased by the E. Hokamp family. Thereafter it was owned by Wayne and Ann Morrow. Wayne died of a brain aneurysm. Gerald Gilson grew up in the house for part of his childhood. The Scheffel farm was sold in 1973 after Adolph passed away to the Hokamps. Esther Gilson was married to Leonard Gilson and they owned the farm across the street from the Scheffel Farm (built by Gustav Scheffel in 1914) and then owned by his bachelor son Adolph Scheffel. Leonard Gilson was tragically killed (Waukesha Freeman, Oct 4, 1956, p. 27, “Crashes Kill Four in State”).

Leonard’s widow, Esther, married F. Adolph Scheffel the bachelor farmer who owned the farm across the street who must have been Gustav’s son and who must have inherited the farm and so then together Adolph & Esther owned the farms on BOTH sides of Hwy 83 right across from each other. Esther’s son Gerald Gilson lived in the Scheffel house with them for a while growing up. Gerald still owns the old Gilson farm except two or three of his children built new homes along Hwy 83 on the Gilson side (West) so Gerald may have given/sold some of the Gilson farm acreage/land to his children.
