Additional Information: | This building has local interest as the first "supermarket" built for Woodman's, now a locally-owned chain of mega-supermarkets with stores in several Wisconsin cities. Woodman's developed out of a typical downtown grocery store, but was one of the first to take advantage of the growing city by building a larger, self-service, grocery on busy Milton Avenue, in what was then the northeastern edge of the city. This store eventually had two more larger locations further up Milton Avenue, until building a mega-supermarket at the intersection of Highways 51 and 14 in the mid-1980s. The store's branches include Madison, LaCrosse, and Kenosha. |
