NOTES
Additional Information:2003-This two story American Foursquare house is part of a farmstead that sits on a large lot with wide lawn spaces and many mature trees and shrubs. The house has a very steep hip roof with projecting hip roof dormers on the north and south elevations. The roof is covered with asphalt siding and clapboards cover the walls of the dormers. Paired windows fill the end walls of the dormers as well. The house has dark red brick walls with a smooth surface accented at the corner by rusticated concrete blocks. The building sits on a stone foundation. The windows are largely single openings filled with single light sashes. Lower level windows feature dark smooth stone lintels. Non-original shutters decorate the window openings. An enclosed porch covers the front entrance on the north elevation. It has been a more recent renovation with concrete block and vinyl sided walls with large modern openings. The roof of the porch is very shallow. An east side entrance is covered with an overhang with details that may reflect the original appearance of the front porch. It has a hip roof, large concrete columns sitting on concrete block bases. A rear entrance is also covered with an enclosed porch or ell that is a later addition and finished like the front porch. There are several outbuildings on the property, but they are all non-contributing due to alterations or recent construction dates.

This house was owned by Richard Jahn in the 1910s when his house was probably constructed. The Emerson family has owned it for several decades (plat maps). The house has some architectural interest as a relatively intact example of the American Foursquare form and for its use of red bricks and early use of concrete accents. But, the house does not have the distinctive architectural features or style or method of construction that would qualify it for eligibility for the NRHP under Criterion C, and the alterations in the front and rear of the building detract somewhat from its historic integrity. Initial research does not suggest that its use or ownership were significant for local history, so the building does not qualify under NR criterion A or B either.
