Additional Information: | November 2003-Roeker's Motel complex consists of six buildings; a c. 1900 residence, a c. 1920 cabin unit, two c. 1950 motel units, a c. 1960 motel unit, and a c. 1950 concession stand. The one and one half story, frame, cross gabled residence is clad in asbestos siding and rests on a stone foundation. Windows are replacement one over one sash. A wraparound porch, enclosed during the historic period, is located on the south and west facades. A c. 1950, wedge shaped, frame concession stand is located at the southeast corner of the house, adjacent to the sidewalk. It is clad in vertical board siding and displays a flat roof. A c. 1950, three unit, side gabled, ranch style motel building is located along the eastern edge of the property. It is sheathed in clapboard siding and displays two over two, horizontally divided windows. A fixed picture window is located on the Broadway Street façade. A similar two unit, side gabled, motel building is located off the rear of the house, along the western edge of the property. A c. 1960, two unit, side gabled, ranch style motel building is located near the rear of the property, along the eastern property line. It is clad in clapboard and a shed roof extension is located on the front façade. A single c. 1920 cabin unit is located at the rear of the property, along the alley. It displays a steeply pitched, side gabled roof and four over four windows. A small portico is located on the front (west) façade.
It is unclear as to whether the residence served as an early rooming house, or if it was a residence that became part of the motel as tourism became more popular in the area. The c. 1920 cabin unit may have been relocated to the site. Overall, the property retains marginal integrity due to alterations, including altered windows and replacement siding on the residence. |
