Additional Information: | Side-gabled in form, this stucco bungalow features a sloping roof which extends over the screened porch with battered pier supports. A central, gabled roof dormer is located along the primary (west) facade and carries a series of four, four-over-one-light, double-hung sashes. The roof of the house and the dormer features widely overhanging eaves and carved wooden bracket supports. Remaining windows consist of regularly arranged, single and paired, four-over-one-light sashes. This house was built by the Northwestern Iron Company and assessor's records indicate a construction date of 1919. A publication produced by the Steel & Tube Company of America (the successor to the Northwestern Iron Company) notes that this was, for a time, the home of E.K. Harris, the Assistant Superintendent of the coke plant. After the iron works sold off its employee housing in the mid-1930s, the next owner is recorded as P.J. & Mary Meyer. P.J. operated a butcher shop in downtown Mayville. By the 1950s, their son Alfred had gained possession of the home. |
