Additional Information: | Resting on a concrete foundation, this two-story house features a hipped roof dormer. A flat-roof, enclosed front porch extends across the primary (west) facade. Although the original, wooden column porch supports are still visible, the porch has since been infilled with a continuous expanse of windows. Remaining fenestration is somewhat regularly placed and arranged singly, in pairs and in tripartite groupings. An historic photograph indicates that the home was originally sheathed with clapboard and the porch was open. Also, a single-stall, rusticated concrete block garage is situated north of the house. Erected by the Northwestern Iron Company in 1914, this, for a time, was the home of W.C. Ratcliffe, the Superintendent of the Nodulizing plant. After the iron works divested themselves of the property, the first private owner of the house was Leo Bachhuber. City directories indicate he worked as a mechanic. |
