Additional Information: | Attorney Butterfield practiced law in Hartford starting in 1881 as part of the firm of Butterfield and Rix. He served as mayor from 1896-1897. In 1901, he was appointed U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He became president of the Kissel Motor Car Co. in 1906. He retired from law in 1909. By 1910, he had resigned as District Attorney and moved to Los Angeles to head a Kissel company branch office. Philip Frey, a retired farmer, then bought this house and lived here with his daughter, Elizabeth, who was a schoolteacher. Elizabeth lived here until the early 1950s. |
