Additional Information: | The subject residence was constructed in 1912 for Arthur C. Schultz and his wife Hazel. Arthur and his brothers, Herman and Oscar, founded Schultz Brothers Company in the 1910s. Schultz Brothers was a wholesale and retail grocery & produce dealer and Arthur served in both treasurer and vice-president positions at various times with the firm. Similar to their father’s general store and saloon, Schultz Brothers Company was located just north of the subject property on Calumet Drive. Although the firm continued to be identified as Schultz Brothers into the mid-twentieth-century, its name was ultimately changed to Schultz Sav-O Stores, Inc., a grocery chain which operated Piggly-Wiggly Stores. Arthur retired from the business in 1956. He and Hazel continued to occupy the subject residence until at least 1973 when Arthur passed away at the age of 88. |
