NOTES
Additional Information:The Buck's settled in Amherst Township around 1856. Charles was born in Pennsylvania in 1818 and was reaised in Owego, N.Y. He married Harriet Darling in Owego in 1844. In 1845, they moved near Barton in Washington Co., WI. Charles was a carpenter and joiner by trade. He worked with Barton Salisbury who had built the first sawmill at Barton in 1844. The Buck's lived in Washington Co. for about 10 years, at which time Harriet's family moved west. The Darling's and Buck's then moved to Portage Co. Charles built a log cabin (non extant) for his family and worked as a carpenter for several years before turning to farming. He helped build the first sawmill in the area for J. Nelson as well as the first gristmill for Bancroft and Grover. The Buck's lived here at least 1895 when A. Moberg aquired the property. He probably was related as the Buck's daughter, Emily, married Andrew Moberg and they had a son named Adelbert.
