Additional Information: | 2020: Resurveyed - This two-and-one-half-story, cream brick, commercial vernacular building was constructed c.1895. The south-facing façade features a Flemish gable and some decorative contrasting red brickwork, but also exhibits numerous alterations. The modern storefront includes two recessed entrances flanked by display windows and sheltered by a vinyl awning. At the west end of the façade is an entrance to the upper stories. A stone cornice runs the full length of the façade between the first and second stories. On the second story of the façade are four one-over-one replacement windows, each accentuated by a round arch brick surround with stone accents. This window grouping is peculiarly off-center, skewing the entire façade. Either there were more windows originally, or some other architectural element is missing from the façade that would have balanced its composition. Centered in the gable is a single one-over-one replacement window with a round arch brick surround with stone accents. The decorative brickwork extends across the façade to each side of the window in a straight header course. Sanborn maps from 1894 and 1910 show a building in this location functioning as a dwelling. The building currently operates as a deli. |
