"Called the finest business block in the city, this imposing Italianate structure once had a large anvil with the letters "IL" in the triangular pediment at the roof line, later replaced by a "B" for Beyers, the last hardware business to reside here. The first floor and basement housed the hardware business. The second floor was residential and the third floor functioned as a lodge hall. The rock-faced limestone is from the Anschuetz quarry in Cedarburg." A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg
