GLAZED TERRA COTTA TILE WALLSGARLAND FRIEZE BANDSEGMENTAL ARCH TRIPLE WINDOW W/ KEYSTONE MOTIFPOLYGONAL 2ND FLR ORIELSPILASTERS DIVIDE BAYSCAST IRON SIDEWALK CLOCK BY BROWN ST CLOCK CO OF MONESSEN, PA

One of the few commercial buildings in Cedarburg still owned and operated by its founding family, their business started in 1884 and they built this building in 1908. Local architect William Hilgen, son of the City's co-founder, Friederich Hilgen, designed this handsome building faced with terra cotta and cast iron ornamentation. The south interior is largely original. Note the painted tin ceiling added in 1921. The original sidewalk clock was knocked down in 1922 by a team of runaway horses pulling a wagon. It was replaced by this rare cast iron clock made by the Brown Street Clock Company of Monessen, Pennsylvania. -A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg
