PAIRED BRACKETS AT EAVESSTONE SEGMENTAL ARCH LINTELS W/ KEYSTONES AND STONE SILLS ORIGINAL STOREFRONTS W/CAST IRON COLUMNS

"In 1842 Ludwig Groth purchased 120 acres of land, now called Cedarburg. He became the area's first realtor as he subdivided acreage into blocks and lots. Most of the buildings erected on Washington Avenue came from original Groth land. His nephew Henry G. Groth, in conjunction with a brother-in-law, John F. Bruss, operated a general merchandise and hardware store in the two-story limestone building erected circa 1876. In later years, Groth Brothers Hardware store occupied the entire building and stayed in operation until 1963. The hip-roofed structure has an Italianate character with twin-bracketed wooden cornices." A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg
