Additional Information: | MASSIVE BRICK CHIMNEYFIELDSTONE 1ST FLR W/ CUT STONE QUOINS 2023: The two-story, c.1890, former cheese factory or creamery has a gambrel roof covered in asphalt shingles. It is a stone structure with a rectangular plan on a stone foundation with clapboard siding in the gambrel end. It has replacement double-hung sash windows and an entry infilled with glass block. Stone quoins and a large exterior brick chimney are on the front (north) facade of the building. Gable dormers are located on the side (east and west) elevations. An attached gabled carport is located on the east elevation. Two metal ridge vents are on the roof. According to the WHPD record, this was historically a dairy. The 1915 Sanborn map depicts a cheese factory at this location. An 1895 directory of creameries and cheese factories in Wisconsin identifies one present in Saukville, which is likely the subject property. It appears it now serves as a residence. |
