ARCHITECTURE/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE
The house is indivisually listed for the National Register of Historic Places under criterion C, architecture, because it is a good example of a cross gable house. The unusal window hoods are particularly of interest and the property has a high level of preservation and [historic material]. Because of the form and the massing of this house and the pre-Civil war construction date, it is possible that this house has a log or half-timber structure under the clapboards. Due to the abundance of this type of structural system in Mequon, this house merits furthur investigation as a possible timber-frame structure. The large barn is also of interest on this property. It is well presrved example of the typical turn of the century barn type in Mequon, particularly with the gable roofed dormer. |
