NOTES
Additional Information:DESCRIPTION
This two story cross gable house has a low-pitched interesecting gable roof, clapboard siding, and and opening that is decorated with unsual arch wooden hoods. Window openigs are both single-pane double-hung sashes and two-over-two cover light double-hung sashes. The front entry porch has a flat roof, wide frieze decorated with dentils, round coloums, and a plain balustrade. A balustrade also tops the roof of the porch. An identically detailed porch covers the rear entrance. Entrances are detailed like the window openings. A large grambrel roofed barn with board siding is also on the property. It has steeply-pitched dormers projecting from the side of the roof. Two small windowssit inside the gable and a row of sawtooth shingles sit under the windows. A small gramble roof shed is also on the property.

ARCHITECTURE/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE
The house is indivisually listed for the National Register of Historic Places under criterion C, architecture, because it is a good example of a cross gable house. The unusal window hoods are particularly of interest and the property has a high level of preservation and [historic material]. Because of the form and the massing of this house and the pre-Civil war construction date, it is possible that this house has a log or half-timber structure under the clapboards. Due to the abundance of this type of structural system in Mequon, this house merits furthur investigation as a possible timber-frame structure. The large barn is also of interest on this property. It is well presrved example of the typical turn of the century barn type in Mequon, particularly with the gable roofed dormer.
