Additional Information: ELABORATE DETAILING - BRACKETED METAL CORNICES AND METAL WINDOW HOODS - DISTINGUISH THIS COMMERCIAL BLOCK. OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TWO STORY BUILDING ARE A RECTANGULAR PLAN CONFIGURATION, A FLAT ROOF, STONE SILLS AND A BRICK EXTERIOR. THE BUILDING WAS FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE HISTORIC COMMERCIAL USES FOR THIS BLOCK INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 141 E. MAPLE STREET WAS THE HOME OF A CLOTHING STORE (C. 1894), A NOTIONS AND HARNESS SHOP (C. 1899), A HARNESS SHOP AND LAUNDRY (C. 1905 TO 1912), A CREAM STATION AND ELECTRIC REPAIR SHOP (C. 1927). PRESENT DAY (1983) TENNANTS DAY'S REXALL DRUGS.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
THIS ITALIANATE COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE HAS HOUSED A VARIETY OF BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS. THE BUILDING AT 141 EAST MAPLE STREET WAS THE LOCATION OF A CLOTHING STORE (1894), A NOTIONS AND HARNESS SHOP, WITH A LODGE ROOM ON THE SECOND FLOOR (1899), A HARNESS SHOP AND CHINESE LAUNDRY (1905, 1912), AND A CREAM STATION AND ELECTRIC REPAIR SHOP (1927).
