Additional Information: | February 2001-Two-story, Dutch Colonial Revival residence is sheathed with brick along the first floor, while the shed-roof dormers above the feature board siding. The front (east) facade has an open entry porch offset to the north (right); a pair of square, brick columns support the porch's gabled roof which shelters a multi-light, wooden door with a metal storm door. The south facade is defined by a single-story, sunroom projection while the north exhibits a two-car garage wing. Both wings are enveloped by a plain, wooden cornice and topped with a mansard-life roof. With the exception of small, half-moon windows in each gable peak, the building's fenestration consists of one-over-over, double-hung sashes arranged singly or in multiple groupings. These windows are obscured by metal, combination storm windows. This house was built in 1929 as the retirement home of William Henry Gifford, a prominent local farmer. Gifford died in 1945; his daughters, Esther and Harriet resided there into to the 1970s. |
