| Additional Information: | 1998- Milwaukee USARC consists of 24 buildings located on 126.76 acres of land in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Beech and Maple forest cover eleven acres of the property. The property has been significantly altered, with a capped landfill occupying part of the land. Lincoln Creek bisects the property. The creek has been artificially channeled and no longer follows its natural path. Asphalt, concrete, or open lawn areas cover the cantonment area of the Milwaukee USARC. The northern portion of the site, outside the cantonment area, is heavily disturbed by continual use as a prison and military site. The Milwaukee USARC is located in a significantly disturbed, urban area. The facility is owned by the U.S. Government and controlled by the 88th RSC. All of the buildings are in good condition and range in date of construction from 1945 to the present (1998). Several buildings have been constructed, altered, or demolished during the development of the facility. None of the buildings exhibit significant architectural character or merit. Building 317 is modern T-shaped building that serves as a multipurpose administration building. The building rests on a poured concrete foundation and has rock-faced concrete block walls. A recessed entrance with eight supporting columns is located on the south side. A split bay projects south over the entryway and features an elaborately fenestrated face with large expanses of single-pane glass. A similar projecting bay and recessed entryway is found on the north side of the building. On the east and west exposures of the building, similarly fenestrated areas are found. The fenestration on the north and south sides of the building is symmetrically spaced with single-pane windows. The main entrances on the south and north sides of the building consist of glass pedestrian doors. Other entrances consist of metal pedestrian doors. A flat roof with a slight parapet covers the structure. |
