Additional Information: | 1998- The Racine USARC consists of two buildings on three acres of land. The area immediately surrounding the buildings is mostly covered by concrete or asphalt. The land has been significantly altered by construction activities and grading for the parking area. The facility is located in a mixed-use urban area. The facility is leased by the U.S. Government and controlled by the 88th RSC until the lease expires in July 1999. The Racine USARC consists a training and administration building and a vehicle maintenance building (Organizational Maintenance Shop or OMS in Amry Reserve terminology). The buildings are in good condition and do not appear to have been modified since their original construction. Neither of the buildings exhibit significant historical or architectural character or merit. The maintenance shop functions as a vehicle maintenance facility for the Racine USARC. Constructed in 1959, it is a 1½-story structure that rests on a poured concrete foundation and has concrete block walls with a brick veneer. Brick pilasters are located around the perimeter of the building. Two metal overhead-retractable bay doors are located on the east wall and two single metal pedestrian doors are located on the south wall. A shed roof covers the structure. 2013: Exterior remains unchanged. 2019: Building currently serves as the greenhouse for the adjacent Racine Montessori School (AHI #237625). The full width of the south (24th St) elevation contains a lean-to greenhouse addition with clear polycarbonate panels and corrugated metal panels. |
