Additional Information: | This building was constructed as a general aircraft maintenance shop along the flightline to support the activities of the 343rd Fighter Group of the Air Defense Command, U.S. Air Force, who were stationed at Volk Field CRTC between 1965 and 1972 as part of the Runway Alert Program. The building was a pre-engineered building similar to aircraft shelters (Buildings 951-958) attributed to Butler Manufacturing. The metal-frame building clad with metal siding has three bays. Each bay on the north and south elevations contains a rolling hangar door. Overhead track doors have been installed in doors on the south elevation. The east and west elevations are blind. Drawings dated 1983 identified the building as a gun maintenance/weapons and release systems shop. |
