Additional Information: | Many similarities exist between this bridge and the one at 6th Street [142247]. Structurally, it employs a post-and-beam structural system. The bridge has cut stone abutments, atop which are set concrete blocks. Set a sidewalk's width inside the abutments are "I" beam uprights with cross beams that carry four built-up "I" beam deck beams, paired as if to support two specific sets of tracks. Smaller, rolled "I" beam deck beams carry the load from the center span to the abutments. No bridge nor manufacturers plate were noted on this structure. As with 6th Street, it is quite possible that the cut stone abutments were associated with early construction along the line. However, with the concrete steps a top the abutments, it is apparent that the bridge today is a replacement. steel beam or plate girder bridge |
