Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This three-story commercial structure is sheathed with a combination of asphalt and vertical wood siding. A three-story tower anchors the northwest corner and is topped with a conical roof. The building's primary entrance is located along the first level of the tower, with two additional entries on the north elevation. A large wooden awning separated the first floor from the upper two stories across both the western and northern elevations. A patio and second-floor wooden deck area project from the southern elevation, while a shed-roof dormer is located along the north side of the third level. Built by the Miller Brewing Company, the building was originally used as a tavern/saloon which occupied the first level, while the upper two stories held living quarters for the saloon keeper as well as hotel/rooming house accommodations. The lower level continued as a saloon until at least the 1970s, except for a brief period during Prohibition when it was listed in the city directories as a soft drink parlor. The second floor maintained hotel/rooming accommodations until at least the 1930s. The building has housed a restaurant since the 1970s. The bar/restaurant was once owned by Paul Mlodzik who was later the mayor of Cudahy. |
