Additional Information: | 20017- Appearance unchanged. The Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church complex consists of a church and a school. Constructed in 1968, the church building features a cruciform plan and an irregular roof. The roof, which is covered in asphalt shingles, is generally flat with neo-mansard detailing and neo-mansard wall dormers. A truncated spire of parabolic trusses creates a raised central portion of the roofline above the sanctuary’s central altar and features vertical ribbons of stained-glass cutaway windows; this segment is capped by a metal cross. The walls are generally clad in brick veneer, and the front (north) facade features an ornamental concrete screen wall between two narthex entrances. Each entrance consists of paired wood-and-glazing doors surrounded by a glass curtain wall. The transept wings feature solid brick veneer walls with fixed ribbon clerestory windows in aluminum casings. Additional entrances are located at the side (east and west) transept elevations and consist of paired, glazed, wood doors flanked by single doors, set in a glass curtain wall. Two additional entrances on the west elevation consist of single doors with fixed sidelights and transoms in aluminum casings. Other fenestration includes fixed and hopper dormer windows in aluminum casings, with corresponding fixed and hopper windows along the elevations below. A two-car garage on the south elevation features a flat roof, brick veneer walls, and a modern overhead retractable garage door. 2007-Drawings for a school and convent structure (1961), as well as a school and parish hall (1959) are also on file at the WAA. |
