Additional Information: | According to village business directories from 1895, 1903, and 1911, the carding mill was one of four industrial concerns in Embarrass, along with two lumber mills and a cheese factory. The parcel of land on which the current carding mill is located was historically part of a larger agricultural farmstead. No significant historic buildings remain on the farmstead, and the mill parcel was sold off from the farmstead in the 1940s. There is a wood frame storage building/barn with a loft, lean-to small addition just to the east and south of the carding mill building. This building appears to date from the early 20th century. No information was found regarding its historic function, but the barn may have served as storage for the carding mill. |
