NOTES
Additional Information:The maid's cabin is a one-story building constructed into a hill. The hipped roof has two hipped dormers on the west elevation. Nine-over-one windows are found throughout the building and those on the east elevation have log flower boxes below the window.

Reportedly, the building was originally two apartments and the Livingston-Griggs families used half of the maid's cabin as a winter quarters while the other half was used by the caretaker until the gatehouse was constructed in 1929. The building was rebuilt in 1929 and it is likely that this is when the interior was remodeled to create one unit.

A retaining wall was constructed behind the maid's cabin in 1929 to keep the hillside from eroding into the pumphouse and icehouse below. Originally a fieldstone wall, the structure was reconstructed in 2000 as a solid concrete wall faced with the original stones. This structure is also a contributing part of the property.

A Historic Structure Report of this building can be found in Room 312 at the Wisconsin Historical Society. #1016 #1017 #23508 #147307 #147321 # 147323 #147341 #147342 #147343 #147344 #147345 #147421 #147422 #147423 #147424
