Additional Information: | This log cabin structure was moved to this location by the West Allis Historical Society in 1998. Originally located in Sheboygan County, it was built circa 1847 for use as a Lutheran church. At the time of the move, the church (known as Trinity Lutheran) was being used as a storage shed. The church was dismanteled in the fall of 1997 and reconstructed in the Honey Creek Cemetery (also owned by the West Allis Historical Society) by Eagle Resoration, with the help of society volunteers, in 1998. The top two courses of logs were not included in the reconstruction due to the poor condition of the logs and to better approximate the historic schoolhouse that it was intended to represent. The cabin was dedicated on May 29, 1998 as part of the city's sesquicentennial celebration. It is currently being used as a replica schoolhouse. |
