NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' titled "Upper Lone Tree Farm Estate Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. THIS GATE WAS BUILT IN 1910 BY CHICAGO BRICKBUILDERS AS THE EAST ENTRANCE TO VICTOR LAWSON'S LONE TREE FARM ESTATE, WHICH IS NOW KNOWN AS LAWSONIA. THE GATES THEMSELVES ARE OF WROUGHT IRON AND THEY STAND BETWEEN MASSIVE BRICK ENTRANCE POSTS TO WHICH ARE ATTACHED AN IMPRESSIVE SYSTEM OF ATTACHED WING WALLS THAT INCLUDE TWO LESSER ENTRANCES THAT ALSO HAVE WROUGHT IRON GATES. THIS GATE COMPLEX IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ADJACENT GATE LODGE (AHI# 90360).

NOTE: ALL OF THE WING WALL THAT WAS LOCATED TO THE WEST OF THE ENTRANCE GATES AND THAT FRONTED ONTO STH 23 WAS DEMOLISHED IN LATE FALL OF 2007 WHEN A NEW ENTRANCE WAS CUT INTO THE LAWSONIA GROUNDS JUST TO THE WEST OF THE ORIGINAL EAST ENTRANCE. AT THIS TIME (FEB. 2008) THE WROUGHT IRON GATES THEMSELVES HAVE ALSO BEEN REMOVED AS WELL ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THIS IS A PERMANENT MOVE OR JUST A TEMPORARY ONE.
